Healing Through Art

Come on down to New Leaf Market Co-op in Tallahassee, Florida where, from July 2nd to July 31st, my art will be featured in the dining area.  I’ve got  a series of nature inspired acrylic paintings that I’ve been creating.

Painting, drawing, dancing, singing and other forms of creative expression are essential to me for keeping myself well, but I also like to think the art forms I do can be healing to others.  My intention is to soothe and perhaps inspire people with the nature themed art you’ll find at New Leaf in the coming month.

Fiber in Your Diet Does Wonders

I have been reading about how we can remove fat soluble toxins from the body, and about how to cleanse the liver, and I came upon information about how eating fiber is so important to helping the liver remove environmental toxins from the body so they never get absorbed.  I thought I might write a blog about it, but as I researched it some more, I decided I would rather just share a well written article with you than write it myself.

Did you know eating fiber in your meals, from fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains and legumes, can keep inflammation at bay, boost your immune system, lower cholesterol, or clear up your skin?  There are so many benefits.  I invite you to read the article on the posted link.  This is a huge key to wellness.

Mayan Abdominal Massage

angel trumpet

I’m excited to tell you that I am learning Mayan Abdominal Massage, an ancient traditional technique that releases congestion of circulation in the abdomen, lower back, diaphragm, hip, and sacral areas.  It’s fairly simple, yet really powerful.  Remember, we are about 75% water, so circulation is a huge key to health in a human body.  Impinged circulation can cause menstrual pain, fertility issues, digestive trouble, back pain and more.  Sometimes we have undue tension in the abdominal region from physical injuries or emotional traumas, possibly for years, and this can cause or exacerbate issues with various organs.  Mayan Abdominal Massage gently releases this tension.

I learned the self care technique years ago, and used it on myself upon waking, for a number of months.  At some point, I let that practice go, but I am getting back into it now, as my interest in Mayan Abdominal Massage has been reinvigorated.

A client reached out to me recently to inquire if I had any techniques that help with fertility, and she inspired me to further my knowledge of this ancient modality.  I contacted a colleague who knows Mayan Abdominal Massage and she showed me the whole routine, which can easily be incorporated into a full body massage, because I already make time to treat abdomens, hips, and lower backs.  We’ll just use slightly different strokes.

I intend to further my training with this method in the coming months, by taking in-depth workshops that also include the accompanying herbalism to support the healing technique.

I’m really inspired.  This modality helps the body restore the natural balance it is always maintaining, homeostasis.  If you know me, you know I am all about empowering people with the knowledge to keep themselves well.  I feel clear about this as a next step for me as a healer, and it really fits with my curiosity about herbal healing and even the Mayans.

Ever since about ten years ago when another colleague in Central Florida had just learned this technique and she told me about it (the first I had heard of it), I thought about how important and healing this will be for women, and on so many levels.

So please, let me know if you’d like to experience this technique next time you come for a massage.  I am really looking forward to sharing it with you.
